Services
I offer proofreading and copyediting. What's the difference? Glad you asked!
Proofreading involves fixing typos, correcting errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and addressing formatting issues. Copyediting goes beyond proofreading to address unclear or cumbersome passages through word choice and sentence structure. Copyediting can also incorporate, among other things, basic fact-checking, verifying the table of contents, consistency with other documents by the same author or company, consistency with in-house style sheets, and "tightening" the author's language to be more concise.

Process
The first step, of course, is to contact me and provide some background on your project, such as type of document, word count, and whether you're interested in proofreading or copyediting. I'm also willing to do a free one- or two-page sample so we can see each other's styles.
I'll follow up with a proposal that includes a price and a time estimate. If you request proofreading, but I think your project could benefit from copyediting, I'll let you know that too.
I'll communicate with you throughout the process and send you updates as I go, especially on longer projects. When it's finished, I'll send you two versions: one with changes marked so you can go through them one by one and accept or reject them; the other with all changes accepted so that you can see a clean copy.
Once you're satisfied, I'll send the final invoice. For small projects, payment can take place when the project is finished. For larger projects, we may set milestones for invoices along the way. I accept payments through PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle.

Rates
Every project is different. I ask $0.015/word for proofreading and $0.02/word for copyediting. For music, I ask $0.10/measure/instrument. However, this can vary depending on factors such as project complexity, technical detail, turnaround time, and your budget.
